Superovulation and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Some couples are able to conceive, but their chances are so low that they require a bit of help. Superovulation and intrauterine insemination (IUI) involves stimulating the ovaries to make more than one egg per cycle and exposing those eggs to more sperm at the optimal window of time. This is beyond what is possible with intercourse alone in a spontaneous menstrual cycle.
Depending on a couple’s unique situation and the medications used, the chance of conception per month can be doubled or tripled using these techniques. For couples who are unsuccessful using IUI, in vitro fertilization (IVF) is often the next step on their fertility journey.
